The transition of Cristiano Ronaldo to Al-Nasr was made possible thanks to the authorities of Saudi Arabia.
According to AFP, citing a source close to the club, the transfer of Ronaldo was supported by the highest officials of Saudi Arabia, including Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman al-Saud, who is the de facto leader of the country.
Mohammed bin Salman al-Saud, along with his brothers Naif, Turki and Rakan, sons of King Salman, became honorary members of Al-Nasr [the board of directors] even before their father became crown prince.
They wanted to bestow excellence on their beloved club and bring it to international attention. The best way to do that is to sign the best player in the world, ” the source said.
According to a source, Ronaldo`s transition to Al-Nasr was financed by the Saudi Arabian government`s Public Investment Fund (PIF - Public Investment Fund). Recall that in October 2021, the Saudi consortium, which included PIF, acquired Newcastle.
Al Nasr and other Saudi clubs don`t have that much money to fund this deal. The costs were covered by the PIF, ” the source said.
Another source close to Al-Nasr said Ronaldo`s move to the club was only possible thanks to the Saudi princes.
The brothers of Mohammed bin Salman al-Saud proposed this deal. They sought to conclude it at any cost. They are all fans of Al Nasr and they wanted to prove that their favorite club has an international dimension, ” the source said.
